Young Mums Course Tutor
We are looking for an “owner” for our Young Mums (Parental Literacy and Life Skills) course.
This is a challenging role where the primary responsibility is leading and motivating a small group of mums to achieve the objectives of the course. Topics include child development, positive parenting, nutrition, budgeting, goal setting and delivery of basic unit standards. Some of them will have children with them, so you will also be responsible for seeing that their children are cared for.
You are responsible for managing the logistics of the course: timetabling and course activities, and relationships with visiting presenters, referring agencies and former students. Ultimately, you will be responsible for the reputation of the course and from this the recruitment of new students, which is largely done by word-of-mouth.
This is a contract position: the programme runs at the All Saints Church crèche, Vanguard St twice a year, 12 hours per week for 10 weeks. This is usually in conjunction with the school term.
The main thing you will need is a calm nature and the ability to bring order to the day-to-day chaos of the course and the situations the mums bring with them. You will also need a good sense of humour. You must also possess, or be able to pick up very quickly, knowledge around child development and positive parenting.
You need to be appropriately experienced and qualified in adult education (preference for literacy education) or social work. You will hold or be prepared to work towards the NCALNE(Voc).
This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person.
