We have some BIG news to share. As of 1 January 2019, Adult Learning Support will merge into our parent body, Literacy Aotearoa. We will operate as Literacy Aotearoa here in the Nelson/Tasman region.
Our name and structure might be changing, but everything else will remain the same. Individually tailored education? ✔️Free to learners? ✔️ Focussed on our community’s needs? ✔️
By amalgamating with Literacy Aotearoa, we’ll be joining a national organisation that’s in almost every town and city around Aotearoa New Zealand.
We will operate a regional model, so we’ll be part of the Upper South Island region. That includes us here in Nelson/Tasman, and our colleagues in Blenheim and the West Coast.
Our existing services and programmes will continue
Our existing services and programmes will continue as usual. You might notice little change to begin with – other than the name on our door.
- If you’re a learner, you’ll still receive the same high-quality education that doesn’t cost you a cent.
- If you’re a community organisation, we’ll work with you just like we currently do.
- If you’re one of our funders, we’ll still want to partner with you to deliver better outcomes for our community. Funds already provided to Adult Learning Support will be ring-fenced for dedicated use in strict accordance with the purposes the funds have been provided for.
- If you’re a business or employer, we’ll be part of a national organisation which will strengthen our quality assurance processes and make it easier to provide training across our region.
Thank you for your support over the last 40 years
We’ve come a long way since Dulcie Caron, a local probation officer, organised some voluntary literacy tuition for her clients in the 1970s.
Since then, we’ve become part of the fabric of the Nelson/Tasman community and a turning point for hundreds of people each year.
During this change, we want to say thank you to all the volunteers, tutors, governance committee members, and community stalwarts who’ve played a role in helping our learners.
