The Nelson/Tasman region thrives off the energy and skills of new migrants and former refugees. Of course, many migrants and former refugees can’t speak, read or write English when they first arrive.
A good grasp of the English language and Kiwi customs is crucial if new migrants are to thrive in New Zealand workplaces.
This Work Fit course will introduce a range of English words and basic conversational structures around jobs and job seeking. Basic literacy is crucial for job applications and working life.
We’ll also teach basic maths (like percentages and ratios) so they can solve problems in the workplace.
This course aims to support migrants and former refugees into a job. Our aim is for them to be better equipped to ask and understand basic questions when seeking a job. We want them to feel more confident at communicating in English in interviews so they can show themselves in their best light.
Being fit and safeMost of the first jobs for migrants are physical roles. We’ll support them to get physically prepared by introducing them to services they can use.
We also cover some basic employment rights, responsibilities and expectations within a New Zealand workplace, including Health and Safety requirements.
