Computers, smartphones and tablets are used in every industry in today’s world. To get ahead, you need some basic tech skills.
Our free computer course for people in work might be just what you need.
This schedule may change depending on the needs of learners enrolled. If Unit Standards are included in the programme, the content of the Unit Standard will be worked in to the programme.
Week One Basic computer skills (turning it on, logging in, terminology and basic commands).
Week Two Set up email, about usernames and passwords.
Week Three Using email.
Week Four Introduction to word processing and printing.
Week Five Internet searching. Downloading from internet.
Week Six Using a smartphone. Smartphone applications.
Week Seven Using common web-based applications, online accounts (e.g. Trade Me, Seek)
Week Eight Setting up accounts and filling in online forms (e.g. Online banking, Real Me)
Week Nine Social media
Week Ten Social media, internet security.
Week Eleven Practice time, computers in libraries.
Week Twelve Support for further learning. Evaluation. Complete Unit Standard assessments (if any).
Twelve weeks of learning with lots of laughs along the way. Come and join us!
The course runs from 6pm to 9pm on Wednesdays. It runs for 12 weeks, starting on Wednesday 13 September, and finishing on Wednesday 15 November.
It’s held at the warm and cosy Adult Learning Support computer room. We’re in Montgomery Square (in central Nelson) above Bin Inn.
The course will not cost you or your employer a cent. You just need to fit within the Tertiary Education Commission funding criteria. You need to be over 16, in work, a New Zealand citizen or resident, and have “low literacy or numeracy skills”.
