Words at Work: Tailor-made strategies for workplace literacyIs poor literacy and numeracy holding back your best people? Are you wasting time sorting out miscommunications and misunderstandings? Poor literacy and numeracy in the workplace can affect productivity, work quality and your ability to make the best use of your workforce. Adult Learning Support recognises that some of your best supervisors and team leaders are not necessarily your best spellers, communicators or writers. We would like to help. We also believe that building your employees confidence with words (reading, writing and spelling) will build their confidence in the workplace which has to be good for everyone. We do not offer a 'one size fits all' computer programme or training package. We work with your organisation and your industry to design the strategies that will best meet your organisational and individual needs. We will work with small groups or individuals at your place or ours. What does Adult Learning Support offer?- Qualified tutors with diverse workplace and industry backgrounds, who can understand your business requirements

Our ClientsWe have worked with a variety of companies. To read quotes from employers and see a full list of companies we have assisted please visit out clients page. What do we do?We focus on functional literacy and numeracy in the workplace. That is, reading, writing and maths skills within the context of people's work environment. We start with what they most urgently need to do. - If they need to learn how to write an accident report, that's what we will work on.
- If they need to be able to calculate to minimise waste, measure area or manage stock, we can do that too.
While dealing with these most urgent needs, we will also try to plug the gaps that have lead to the need in the first place. Functional or workplace literacy also includes clarity of communication, both spoken and written. In the case of your supervisors, team leaders or employees this means things like being able to give clear instructions, summarising memos and presenting quality standards and data to the team. It may also mean completing assignments for industry qualifications or learning to manage workplace technology like computers or programmable machinery. SubsidiesThe Government is keen to build workplace capability. There may be subisdies available to support this work if your project meets the criteria. Please contact us to find out more.
