Adult Literacy Tutors

This is the tutor resource area for Adult Learning Support. Tutors who already belong to ALS will soon be able to log in and access materials and resources online.

Why become a tutor?

1 in 5 New Zealanders have difficulties with literacy and numeracy. To avoid embarrassment, this is often a hidden difficulty. People often seek assistance once they realise that they need to improve their abilities to read to their children, gain a promotion or complete a course of study. In order to help them achieve their potential Adult Learning Support needs motivated and skilled tutors.

Who can become a tutor?

Anyone with a keen desire to help those with literacy difficulties can become a tutor. Our tutors are a mix of volunteers and contracted employees. They bring a wide range of skills to their work. They are buisness people, professionals, farmers, scientists, IT professionals, educators and homemakers.
