About Adult Learning Support

Adult Learning Support works with people to enable them to take opportunities, make choices and fully participate in their communities. We have been active in the Nelson region for 30 years. We are part of a nationwide network of 'not-for-profit' organisations known as Literacy Aotearoa.

Our Tutors

Our tutors area a mix of volunteers and contracted employees who bring a wide range of skills to their work. They are business people, professionals, farmer, scientists, IT professionals, educators and homemakers. Our tutors all have a NZQA certificate in Adult Literacy Tutoring. They are resourceful, creative and dedicated people, willing to go the extra mile for their students.

Our Students

Our learners come from all walks of life and circumstances. They include labourers, students, business people, beneficiaries, care givers, supervisors, tradesmen and apprentices.

Their reasons for coming to Adult Learning Support are varied. They come so they can:

  • help their children
  • improve their work prospects
  • complete a course of study
  • because they are sick of struggling
