High wire, a PD day with a difference

ALS tutors on the high wire align=

We ask our learners to trust us, we ask them to challenge themselves and step out of their comfort zone, so we thought we should do the same. Whenua Iti Outdoors in Lower Moutere, hosted our first professional development day for 2011. We took on a set of physical and mental challenges. At the end of the day, the ulitmate challenge was to climb up to and negotiate the high wire course, 10 metres off the ground. Read on to see more photos.

"I had a ball and I was very pleased you included the Governance committee in the day. I can now put faces to names that I couldn't before and feel more part of the 'great whole'."

"Despite the physical demands, energetically it was a gentle way to get to know other ALS members - less talk and more doing made this the safest, most relaxed 'meet the other ALS members event' that I have been part of. It suited my kinaesthetic learning preference and my love of play."

"I also really enjoyed the personal challenge aspects of the day. Next time I will complete all of the high ropes course!"

"Overall I thought the day was a very good way of all the team getting together and just 'hanging out'."

"Some good transfer of learning to our work with students via facilitated discussion during the blind fold walk, tipping bridge, and low ropes course."
